Alfie, originally Charlotte's bird, is a gentle, affectionate little character with impeccable manners. When he and Scooby failed to become friends, we decided to find him a companion.
Enter Jojo.
At first, she seemed so quiet and unassuming that we wondered whether she might be a little boring. How spectacularly wrong we were!
Jojo has since appointed herself Head of Mischief, with Alfie as her rather reluctant accomplice.
She considers the art room her personal kingdom, where she oversees interior design, furniture modifications and the occasional demolition project. Doorframes, armchairs and anything else within reach are considered fair game, despite having an impressive collection of toys of her own.
Both birds are accomplished escape artists, having mastered the art of opening cage latches. One particularly alarming adventure involving Scooby resulted in a complete reorganisation of the household, with separate accommodation now firmly established!
Jojo is a tiny feathered whirlwind with an enormous personality. She charges at feet, argues with squirrels outside and occasionally prefers biting the hand offering a treat rather than accepting the treat itself.
Alfie, meanwhile, remains remarkably gentle and well behaved, although he sometimes finds himself caught up in Jojo's latest scheme.
Both enjoy sitting on shoulders, investigating whatever I'm eating and enthusiastically dunking ice cubes.
Yet beneath Jojo's formidable attitude is a little bird who seems to crave companionship and affection. For all her mischief, she has an enormous place in my heart.
Living with these two requires patience, a sense of humour and some fairly extensive bird-proofing.
Life is certainly never dull with the Notorious TARDIS Twins!
